I composed this portrait of my son a year before his bar mitzvah. I’m a real stickler for unposed pictures and that was my aim as I called his name while he was learning with a camera in my hand. I loved the natural expression I caught on his face – one with a certain annoyance at being interrupted.
I had this painting made into the invitations for his bar mitzvah as well as the ‘bentchers’ prayer cards given out after his special dinner.
