I remember with such clarity the day that extremely old video footage became public. The memory is so vivid as it was a video of the Chofetz Chaim walking down the street flanked on either side by students and followers and the only known image existing of the Chofetz Chaim himself!
I painted his portrait copied from the static imagery in the screen and did my best to bring this holy man alive again.
Rav Yisroel Meir Kagan Zt’l popularly known as the Chofetz Chaim was born in Belarus in 1839 and died there at the age of 94 in 1933. He established the once booming, highly prominent Yeshiva in Radin which later became known as ‘Yeshivas Chofetz Chaim of Radin’. As well as being a world famous Torah scholar he was a humble and modest man who cared deeply about Jewish causes. He became one of the most influential Rabbis during the late 19th century and early 20th.
