I will never forget seeing this incredible figure at my brother’s wedding. Just looking at him I could see the warmth and holiness emanating. As soon as Rav Nosson Tzvi Zt’l passed away I felt I needed to paint him and got to work. Interestingly, unbeknownst to the buyer, the day his portrait was sold was in fact the Rav’s first yahrzeit (anniversary of his death).
I chose to paint this portrait on a wide canvas with his face on the side and space in front of him to symbolise that although he died young, it does not show on the utter magnitude of what he managed to accomplish in his lifetime.
Rav Nosson Tzvi Finkel Zt’l was born in Chicago in 1943 and passed away in Israel at the age of 68 in 2011. He held the prestigious position as dean of the Mir Yeshiva in Jerusalem – the largest Yeshiva in Israel with over 7500 students. He was known for his love and concern for every student. Although he was ill for many years it never stood in the way of his own Torah learning, teaching and fundraising.
