I experienced Rabbi Beck’s warmth and kindness firsthand as he was my neighbour whom I often visited. Impressed by his strength of character and greatness I asked to compose a portrait of him. When he agreed I photographed him and got straight to work.
One of the last vestiges of pre World War II Eastern European Jewry, Rabbi Yitzchok Beck zt”l, a humble, unassuming individual, lived in London until his death in 2010. An outstanding Talmid Chochom, who learned at the feet of the greatest Gedolim already from a very young age, his life was one of total immersion in Torah. His opinion was sought by many Torah greats, yet his heart was open to Jews of every persuasion and his engagement with all was honest, caring and friendly.
