With this painting, I sought to express the depth and importance of prayer throughout the turbulent times of adolescence. The light is shining from the Siddur onto his face portraying the clarity and lightness that is felt when praying sincerely.
The sleeve casually rolled up indicates that all men of all stages and observance levels are able to fulfill this mitsvah and reap its’s multitude of benefits by a simple pulling up of his sleeve.
For this portrait, I used my son as a model having him wear green for contrast and positioning him in a dark area so as to bring out the light in his face.
